When I try to connect, a window pops up and asks me for my
password. What's wrong?
This is usually caused by one of two things. The first is the username or the
password being typed in uppercase letters. In this case, retype both the username
and the password in all lowercase. The second cause of this problem is that the
account has been suspended. If you suspect this could be the case, contact the
Helpdesk and we can correct the problem for you.

I get busy signals when I dial in. Is this normal?
While busy signals do happen to every Internet Service Provider, Planet Connect strives
to eliminate busies completely. However, if they do occur, we add additional
capacity to allow more users to connect at the same time. Here are a few simple
things that everyone can do to keep busy signals to a minimum :
- If you are not actively using the Internet, disconnect so the line becomes free for
someone else.
- Don't "camp." Camping is when someone leaves their computer connected 24
hours a day, even when they are not home. The connection that you have with Planet
Connect is not a permanent, dedicated connection. If you feel you would like a
dedicated line, contact the Helpdesk and one of the technicians will be happy to assist
you.
- If busy signals become an issue in your area, do not hesitate to notify us.
- Make sure you are using the most up to date local dial in number for your area.

I've got a 56K V.90 Modem, and I usually get disconnected
several times a day. What's wrong?
In some areas, the phone lines simply won't support a 56K connection.
Usually, 56K only works well within city limits, because the phone lines and
phone company equipment are usually much newer and in much better condition
there. The best solution in this situation is to disable the 56K portion
of your modem. The instructions for this can be found at http://www.56k.com/trouble/interop.shtml.

Why does my WebTV sometimes tries to
dial the WebTV Network in Knoxville instead of connecting to Planet Connect? Can
this be fixed?
Due to a known error with the manner in which WebTV unit connects to the Internet,
there is a potential that the unit will attempt to dial a long distance number to connect
to the closest WebTV local dial in number. The unit shows the number it dials each time a
connection to the Internet is made. If the screen shows that it is connecting to WebTV
Knoxville (if this is the case, the phone number it shows will be 1-423-470-2296) or if
the number it shows is not your local Planet Connect Internet dial in number, cancel the
call immediately. If you do not cancel the call, your phone will be billed at least $0.10
per minute. This could result in an extremely large phone bill. If this occurs Planet
Connect Internet cannot and will not be held accountable for the charges on your phone
bill.
